Christian Rappers Can’t Win?

XXL magazine recently ran a feature about Christian rap music. The thesis of the story was the same old, tried and true conclusion that Christian rappers have to dumb it down in order to be relevant. Except “it” isn’t lyrical ability, but Jesus.  This point of view isn’t new.

I was going to write a response, but The Ambassador pretty much summed up my exact thoughts. So check this out…

Seriously, anyone in opposition with Christ whether found in the music industry , educational formats etc. are offended by the name of Jesus, period. So if Christian rappers lean toward being called the ” positive rappers” idk is fine, but as soon they say the name of Jesus the world will take offense again…..because the issue is and always has been Jesus,.whatever the venue..I agree with Ambassador when he mentions Christians, basically taking the same perspective as the world. I hear Christians quite frequently say ”I don’t listen to Christian rap”, because clearly a house divided stands lol…….I have more to say but i’m in class, study hard haha

Thanks for the comment. I think Ambassador pretty much said everything I felt. I will say, however, that I would never excoriate a Christian who says they don’t listen to Christian rap because up until very recently 85% was pretty bad. Above and beyond the message and not on a scale created by “the world” but on a true, sonically pleasing, musical scale Christian rap was just not done very well.
